Design Inspirations with Christopher Raeburn.
Remaking, reducing, recycling.
Christopher Ræburn is a British fashion designer who makes distinctive, functional menswear, womenswear, luggage and accessories out of surplus fabrics and materials. The ethos of his eponymous brand is underpinned by the four Rs: RÆMADE, RÆDUCED, RÆCYCLED and RÆBURN.
In 2020, Christopher received a Fashion Award in the Environment category for creating positive change in the fashion industry. “I am very humbled to have received the Fashion Award 2020 given our 11 years of doing things differently at RÆBURN — putting action over words, and attracting disruptors, innovators and troublemakers who support our vision,” he commented on the accolade.
Good design is environmentally friendly.
The Ræburn Lab thrives on craft, creativity and community. “What we do here is take thousands of original items. We deconstruct them and we rework them into usable, contemporary and interesting new items.”
It comes as no surprise that Christopher was chosen to represent the Dieter Rams principle of good design being environmentally friendly. This exact notion is what Ræburn Design lives for as a company. “It’s all about responsible design and reducing our impacts on the environment.“
Soundtracking the design process.
Music is very important to Christopher’s creativity. “When I think about the design process, whether that be within a studio environment or now, of course, working from home, designing a collection or new products, having the right soundtrack is really key.”
